In short. Search Console includes AI Overviews traffic in Web totals without a documented separate AI Overviews or AI Mode filter.
Definition: AI Overviews are Google Search summaries with links to supporting web resources. As of 17 October 2026, Search Console includes their traffic in Web performance totals, while Google's documented filters provide no separate AI Overviews or AI Mode view.
Key facts
- Google's AI features documentation places both AI Overviews and AI Mode in the Performance report's Web search type.
- The Performance report overview lists clicks, impressions, click-through rate and average position as available metrics.
- Google's Search appearance documentation says a site's filter menu shows only supported appearance types for which it records impressions.
- Google's counting documentation excludes data from Search Labs experiments.
What does the report include?
Google's AI features guide includes sites appearing in AI Overviews and AI Mode in overall search traffic. AI Mode is Google's interactive AI search response with links to web resources.
Google's measurement rules count a click when someone follows an external page link in either feature. Standard impression rules apply. An impression records a link being seen or potentially seen, with visibility requirements depending on the result format. A follow-up question in AI Mode counts as a new query, with the new response's clicks and impressions attributed to that query.
Which filters are documented?
The Performance report setup guide distinguishes search type from the dimensions used to group table rows. Search types include Web text-based, Web multimodal, Image, Video and News. Web text-based covers queries entered into the standard search bar. Web multimodal covers image-based searches, including Google Lens. These categories describe how the search originates.
Search appearance groups results by a displayed feature. Google's supported types table includes Product snippets and Discussion forums, alongside their API values and bulk export field names. The same documentation says Queries groups search terms, Pages groups URLs, and Countries and Devices describe where and on what device searches originate.
How can a website examine changes?
The Performance overview documents the report controls used for this review:
Performance report (Search results)
Search type
Date range
Pages
Queries
Selecting a page or query row narrows the report to that item. Google's filtering guide also supports combining dimensions and comparing date ranges. These controls allow analysis of a defined page or query segment over time. From those filter definitions, the resulting figures describe the selected segment's overall search performance.

FAQ
Can I use a regex to select AI Overviews queries?
Google's regex instructions apply patterns to query text or page URLs. A matching segment therefore groups those strings; identifying an AI Overviews appearance requires separate evidence.
Why does a query filter change the total?
Google's query documentation says anonymized queries protect user privacy. They contribute to chart totals until a query filter is applied, at which point they are omitted.
