How do I represent a personal website in Yoast SEO?

The Citead team, updated

In short. Choose Person in Yoast SEO’s Site representation settings, select the matching WordPress user, and review that user’s public name and profiles.

Definition: Site representation identifies the person or organization that a website represents in Yoast SEO's structured data, the machine-readable description added to a page's code. As of 17 October 2026, the Person option uses a selected WordPress user's profile to describe the individual behind a personal website.

Key facts

Where is the Person setting?

In the WordPress administration menu, the path is Yoast SEO > Settings > Site representation. Yoast's settings guide explains that the initial choice between Organization and Person changes the remaining fields on the page.

For a personal blog or personal art portfolio, the selection is Person. The Select a user dropdown then identifies the WordPress account of the person represented by the website. The selected account's profile needs accurate, current information because Yoast uses that profile for the representation.

The same guide recommends Organization for a local business. The decision therefore concerns the entity represented by the site, rather than simply the account administering WordPress.

Which profile details matter?

Yoast's Site representation guide identifies Display name publicly as in the WordPress user settings as the name used across the site and elsewhere online. Reviewing that field helps check which public name the selected account supplies.

A personal logo or avatar can be uploaded below the user dropdown. The Other profiles section contains social profile fields drawn from the selected WordPress user's profile. Changes in either location also change the other location, according to the same guide.

Yoast's implementation guide explains that these other profiles tell search engines which profiles are associated with the site. This makes selecting the correct WordPress account part of checking the associated identity information.

How can the generated Person data be checked?

Yoast's Person specification describes a Person as an individual who may be an author or, in some cases, a website's publisher. Its minimum example contains the following JSON code:

{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@graph": [
    {
      "@type": "Person",
      "@id": "https://www.example.com/#/schema/Person/abc123",
      "name": "Example person name"
    }
  ]
}

This is Yoast's documentation example. The example name and address are placeholders. In a page's source, the practical checks are the Person type, its identifier and the expected public name. The specification describes sameAs as an array of declared social or authoritative profile URLs, so that field can also be checked against the selected person's profiles when present.

The same specification says a Person record with missing or invalid required fields should be omitted. It also treats a name such as admin as invalid. These are specific details to check when the expected person is absent from the output.

FAQ

Do I need to write the Person markup myself?

Yoast's implementation guide says the plugin handles schema implementation without coding. You supply the representation settings and profile information.

Where do I change the person's social profiles?

You can edit Other profiles in Site representation or the selected WordPress user's profile. Yoast's settings guide says changes are reflected in both places.
