In short. Edit the slug in SEO basics, publish the site, and check the redirect from the old address, with manual setup for Wix Blog pages.
Definition: A URL slug is the page-specific ending of a web address. As of 17 October 2026, Wix documents editing it in the page's SEO basics settings; eligible pages receive an automatic 301 redirect, which sends requests for the old address to its permanent replacement.
Key facts
- Wix's page URL instructions require an upgraded site and a connected domain for redirects to be created.
- The SEO panel documentation recommends changing a slug only when necessary to reflect the page's content and keeping it short and readable.
- Wix's redirect setup guide lists editor pages among the page types with automatic redirects and identifies Wix Blog pages as an exception requiring manual setup.
Where is the URL slug field?
Wix's SEO panel instructions give this route for a regular page in Wix Editor: open Pages & Menu, select the page's More Actions icon, then SEO basics. The editable field is URL slug (last part of the page's URL). Studio Editor uses Pages, followed by More Actions and SEO Basics.
The same documentation gives separate dashboard routes for app content. For a Wix Stores product, open Products, select the product, then Edit SEO Settings under Marketing & SEO, followed by Basics. For a blog post, open Blog, select the post, edit its slug under SEO, then click Publish.
How is the change applied?
Wix's page URL guide says to enter the new slug and press Enter. Saving and publishing the site applies the change to the live page.
Some paths are reserved for Wix apps or SEO functions. Examples from the same guide include:
apps
_api
robots.txt
sitemap.xml
Using a reserved path produces a URL-unavailable error. These are examples of unavailable values, rather than suggested slugs.
How are redirects controlled?
Wix's redirect guide places the URL Redirect Manager in the dashboard under SEO & GEO, then Tools and settings. After the site is published, this manager allows automatic redirects to be edited or deleted.
For a manual redirect, select + New Redirect, then Single redirect. Enter the previous path under Old URL. The documentation gives this example:
/about-us
For a destination on the same site, start typing the new slug and select the page from the dropdown. For an external destination, enter the complete URL. Click Save.
If an automatic redirect conflicts with an existing manual redirect, the manager offers Retry, then Update Redirect to use the new slug or Keep Existing Redirect to retain the existing mapping.
How is the redirect checked?
Wix's redirect checking instructions recommend entering the redirected address in the browser and confirming that the defined destination opens. The domain must be properly connected to Wix. The same instructions describe a loop when redirects point between an old slug and a restored original slug; removing the original redirect resolves that documented case.

FAQ
What if the new address still fails after publishing?
Wix's page URL troubleshooting guidance recommends clearing your browser cache or checking the page in an incognito window after saving and publishing.
Does changing a Wix Blog slug create a redirect automatically?
Wix's redirect guide says Wix Blog pages require you to create the redirect manually in the URL Redirect Manager.
Can a deleted redirect be recovered?
The same redirect guide states that deletion is irreversible. Record any mapping that needs to be retained before removing it.
