Key facts
- Opera's Aria announcement describes Composer, its infrastructure connecting OpenAI's GPT technology with additional capabilities including live web results.
- Opera's desktop replacement announcement identifies Opera AI as Aria's replacement in Opera One, Opera GX and Opera Air.
- The Opera AI FAQ lists desktop, Android and iOS availability in most countries and regions, with geographical exclusions.
What does access to live web results mean?
Opera's 24 May 2023 announcement describes Aria as connected to the internet, with up-to-date information. Composer is Opera's infrastructure for connecting the assistant to AI models and adding capabilities such as live web results. The announcement also describes access to Opera's support documentation for answering product questions.
The current help documentation says Opera AI combines information from multiple online sources to answer questions. It identifies both currently available web data and material used to train the model as sources of knowledge. Web retrieval means obtaining information from the web when answering a question. The FAQ gives this concrete example of a question about current information:
What’s the weather in New York right now?
Where is the assistant available now?
Opera's 11 December 2025 desktop announcement says the rebuilt Opera AI takes Aria's place across Opera One, Opera GX and Opera Air. The access point is the AI button in the browser's top-right corner. The announcement also documents switches in Settings or Easy Setup for enabling the assistant and its toolbar button.
The current FAQ confirms free access without an Opera Account. On Android and iPhone, the AI button is in the main menu. Regional restrictions include China and Russia; the FAQ contains the full list. Access requires an age of at least 18, and the assistant is unavailable in private windows.
Opera also announces Aria for Opera Mini on 16 April 2025. That announcement describes real-time web answers and access from the main menu or the bottom of the start page after updating the browser.
How can a website's content enter an answer?
Opera's feature page describes comparisons between pages and direct links to sources. It also documents questions about the currently viewed page or a Tab Island, Opera's grouping of browser tabs.
Opera's desktop announcement explains that page context access starts enabled for a new chat opened while visiting a website. Page content reaches the assistant when a message is sent with that access enabled. A switch at the top of the chat disables this access before the conversation starts.
For a website review, this gives two concrete checks: inspect linked source pages in a web answer and ask about an open page through page context.
