  • Naver's December 2023 announcement documents Cue: answers appearing within integrated search for detailed conversational queries.

How does the original Cue: workflow operate?

The September 2023 announcement describes a search strategy followed by searches, an answer and supporting references. It presents these interface stages:

Search → Response → Reference Information → Follow-Up Question

Naver calls the underlying approach “multi-step reasoning.” Its example asks for plants suitable for a studio apartment, together with care instructions. Cue: searches for relevant plant characteristics and care guidance before assembling a response. The “View more” control opens comprehensive search results, while follow-up questions support further exploration.

Naver's 1 December 2023 release reports integration beginning on 30 November. Detailed conversational requests can produce Cue: answers at the top of search results, with availability initially described for PC beta users.

The release gives a restaurant request combining a Seongsu-dong location, Christmas reservations and parking. Naver attributes the matching results to connections with Place, its local information service, and Booking, its reservation service. Suggested queries also appear in autocomplete, and users can select an option to view a Cue: response.

What follows Cue:?

Naver's 24 March 2025 AI Briefing announcement sets a 27 March launch for access through search without a separate service subscription. AI Briefing presents summaries alongside creators and original content sources. Its official-source format uses government or public institution pages for requests such as driver's licence renewal requirements. Other formats cover local information, short videos and shopping guidance.

The February 2026 closure notice identifies AI Briefing as an application of the technology and experience accumulated through Cue:. It schedules Cue:'s closure for 9 April and points to AI Tab as the next conversational search service.

Naver's 26 June 2026 AI Tab announcement describes general availability after an April membership beta. AI Tab connects conversational answers to shopping and reservations, including maps and available reservation times inside answers. This chronology places Cue: within Naver's development of conversational search, with AI Briefing providing search summaries and AI Tab providing a dedicated conversational experience.
