In short. Gemini language and regional availability depends on the app, with separate web and mobile lists and additional account, device and feature conditions.
Definition: Gemini language availability describes the languages and locations supported by Google's Gemini apps. As of 17 October 2026, Google publishes separate availability documentation for the web app and mobile apps, with additional conditions for particular languages, devices and accounts.
Key facts
- Google's web availability documentation lists more than 70 languages and over 230 countries and territories.
- Google's Android availability documentation marks languages that lack “Hey Google” voice commands and some Gemini action features with an asterisk.
- Google's iPhone and iPad availability documentation requires the device language to be an eligible language.
- Google's language settings documentation says typed prompts and Gemini Live conversations can use any supported language regardless of the display language setting.
Which languages and regions does the web app support?
Google's web availability list includes Arabic, English, French, Hindi, Japanese and Spanish. It also lists Farsi and Chinese with the variants “Simplified/Traditional/Hong Kong.” The full list is the reference for checking a particular language.
The country list includes France, India and the United States. Mainland China appears with the qualification “Workspace only.” A check for that market therefore needs to record the account type alongside the location. Google links separate eligibility requirements from the same page and explicitly warns that mobile availability may differ.
How does mobile availability differ?
Google's Android help page describes mobile availability in more than 150 countries. It separates locations where the app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store from locations where users can switch through Google Assistant. For the latter route, Google instructs users to wait for an invitation while using Google Assistant.
The language list also carries feature restrictions. Polish appears without an asterisk; Ukrainian and Romanian carry one. That marker means “Hey Google” commands and some action features are unavailable in those languages.
Google's iOS help page specifies iOS 16 or later for iPhones and iPads. It describes gradual rollout across languages and territories, so the relevant checks include the iOS list and rollout status.
How is the language selected?
Google's language settings help says the web app uses the browser or device language. The setting controls menus, notifications and other interface text. It also affects speech through the prompt microphone or “Hey Google”; Gemini Live and typed prompts support replies in any supported language.
For Android, Google's mobile documentation gives this settings path:
Menu > profile picture or initial > Settings > Languages
If a selected language works with both Gemini and Google Assistant, their language settings stay synchronized.
