In short. A site owner requests a region in Yandex Webmaster with a contact-page link, while regions supplied by Yandex Business are edited in the organization's card.
Definition: A site's region is a geographic association that Yandex can consider for location-dependent searches. As of 17 October 2026, Yandex Webmaster lets owners request a region and submit a contact-page link for moderation against the site's content.
Key facts
- Yandex's Site region documentation generally allows one assigned region, based on the company's actual address; it also gives guidance for businesses with several offices.
- Yandex's Getting started guide requires verification of site management rights to manage a site in Webmaster.
- Yandex's Webmaster support guidance requires the same HTTP or HTTPS protocol and www variant in Webmaster and Yandex Business when checking a missing Business region.
Where is the region setting?
Yandex's Getting started guide begins with signing in using Yandex ID, adding the site's URL, and verifying management rights through the Access rights page. Webmaster accepts sites with their own domain.
The Site region instructions give this settings path:
Display in the search → Site region
In the Webmaster block, the owner clicks the editing icon, starts typing a region name, and selects a suggestion. The request includes a link to the site's contact-details page. Saving submits the choice for moderation. The region needs to be specified for the primary site address: assigning it to an alternate address does not automatically assign it to the primary one.
Which region is appropriate?
Yandex's region-selection guidance uses a Moscow beauty salon as an example of a business assigned to Moscow. A business seeking clients across Russia can choose Russia if its site substantiates that coverage. A store delivering to several regions chooses a region covering its delivery area and lists the cities served.
For a single site representing several offices, Yandex recommends a region covering all office addresses, with every address listed on the site. For businesses with offices in different regions, Yandex also describes multiple-region assignment when each office's address and phone number appear on the site. Separate domains or subdomains for individual offices can each have their own region. General-content media sites do not need regional assignment; regional media and sites selling products or services receive regional-assignment recommendations.
What does moderation check?
Yandex's moderation requirements require prominent contact and delivery information, accessible pages that display correctly, and a virus-free site. For a business operating in one region, the full address includes the postal code and city phone code. Address and phone details must be available beyond an image.
The moderator compares the selected region with the site's information. If the request is rejected, the owner can choose a more suitable region and resubmit it.
How are Business regions and “No region” handled?
Yandex's Site region documentation directs owners to edit the organization's card in Yandex Business when the assigned region comes from that service. The card must use the site's main page and match Webmaster's protocol and www variant.
For a site without a regional focus, the owner selects No region on the same settings page and saves. After moderation, the status becomes “Site is not currently geographically targeted”. A geographically assigned site can still appear for relevant searches from other regions.

FAQ
How long does a region change take?
Yandex's main instructions describe moderation as lasting several days to several weeks. After moderation, changes take effect within two weeks.
Why is Save inactive?
Yandex's support guidance says to check that you filled in every field and that the contact-page link matches the site's protocol and www variant.
Why is my Yandex Business region missing?
The same support guidance says to check that your Business card appears in both Yandex Business and Yandex Maps, and that more than a week has passed since publication or editing. Your Business listing must use the main website page.
