In short. Turn off Sitemap indexing in the page’s SEO settings and publish the site to exclude the page from Webflow’s generated sitemap and add noindex.
Definition: As of October 2026, switching off Webflow’s Sitemap indexing setting excludes a static page from its automatically generated sitemap, the file listing site URLs for search engines. The setting also adds a
noindexinstruction against search indexing.
Key facts
- Webflow’s sitemap documentation says its generated
sitemap.xmlupdates whenever the site is published. - Webflow’s indexing documentation requires automatic sitemap generation for the static-page switch.
- Google’s December 2025 noindex documentation requires crawler access so Google can read the instruction.
Where is the page-level control?
Webflow’s page indexing instructions give this sequence for a static page:
- Open the page.
- Open Page settings > SEO settings.
- Switch Sitemap indexing off.
- Publish the site.
The switch adds this HTML metadata, an instruction embedded in the page:
<meta content="noindex" name="robots">
A manually inserted noindex tag or a crawl restriction in robots.txt, the file containing crawler access rules, leaves the page in the generated sitemap unless the switch is also off.
How do CMS items and custom sitemaps differ?
For a CMS item, an entry in a Webflow content Collection, Webflow’s indexing guide places the switch under Item details. Open the item, switch Sitemap Indexing off, then save and publish. This adds noindex and excludes the item from the sitemap. The feature requires a paid Site plan.
Webflow’s custom sitemap instructions describe a separate workflow: set Auto-generate sitemap to No under Site settings > SEO > Sitemap, paste the XML into Custom sitemap.xml, save changes and publish. With this workflow, URL selection belongs in the supplied XML.
How can the published result be checked?
Webflow’s sitemap guide identifies the published file at:
/sitemap.xml
After publication, open that path on the site’s domain and search the file for the excluded page’s URL.
For the indexing instruction, Google’s debugging guidance recommends Search Console’s URL Inspection tool to examine the HTML Googlebot receives. Googlebot is Google’s crawler. Check for the noindex tag and keep the URL accessible to it: a robots.txt block prevents Google from reading the tag. Search Console’s Page Indexing report also records pages where Googlebot extracts noindex.
