In short. Edit a category's SEO URLs field for its value, and use Settings > SEO to scope the URL template by sales channel.
Definition: A Shopware category's generated SEO URL can be set for each sales channel in the category editor's SEO section, under SEO URLs. The URL structure used to generate it is configured separately in Settings > SEO, either for all sales channels or for one selected sales channel.
Key facts
- Open the category manager at Catalogues > Categories, then edit the category. Shopware's category documentation says the editor includes an SEO tab for the default Page/List category type.
- The category SEO section contains an SEO title, an SEO description and additional keywords. It also contains the SEO URLs area.
- In SEO URLs, Shopware lets you define an SEO URL category for every sales channel. Those values are based on the SEO settings configured for the shop.
- The URL structure for categories is configured in the SEO settings documentation, whose Sales channel selector applies the configuration globally or to a selected sales channel.
Which category field changes the generated URL?
Edit the category in Catalogues > Categories and open its SEO tab. In that tab, the SEO URLs area is the category-level place to provide a URL value for a particular sales channel. The category documentation describes the area as defining an SEO URL category for every sales channel, with the values based on the SEO settings.
The same editor also holds the category's SEO title, SEO description and additional keywords. These are metadata fields for the category. The generated path is handled in the SEO URLs area, so the metadata fields and the URL value have separate roles.
The sales-channel association is configured in the category's General tab. Shopware says that you can select multiple sales channels for which the category is available. Select the channel whose category URL you are editing before saving the SEO URL value.
Where is the URL pattern configured?
The category field uses the pattern configured under Settings > SEO. Shopware's SEO settings documentation describes this page as the place where the structure of SEO URLs for product detail pages and categories is defined.
Use the Sales channel selector on that page to choose the scope. The documented choices are the global configuration for all sales channels and a configuration for one selected sales channel. When a selected channel is cleared, Shopware displays All sales channels again and returns to the general setting.
The category template field uses Twig variables. Shopware describes the default category structure as the breadcrumb and gives this category example:
{% for part in category.seoBreadcrumb %}{{ part }}/{% endfor %}
The documentation also lists category variables such as category.translated.name, category.parentId, category.path, category.visible, category.type, category.translated.keywords and category.seoUrls. A template can therefore be based on the category breadcrumb or on another documented category value.
What happens after the pattern changes?
Changing the category URL pattern is a template change rather than a category-field edit. Shopware documents a rebuild step after an SEO template change and says the index must be rebuilt so the URLs are updated. The same page provides the Rebuild SEO index setting and a console command below it.
For a single category, start in the category editor and its SEO URLs area. For a pattern shared by categories, use Settings > SEO and check the Sales channel scope first. This separates a category-level URL value from the template that generates category paths.

FAQ
Is the category SEO URL the same as the SEO URL template?
No. You edit the category's SEO URL value in the category editor, while the template that structures category URLs is configured in Settings > SEO. Shopware's category documentation describes the category value as based on the SEO settings.
Can the category URL pattern vary by sales channel?
Yes. In the SEO settings, you can choose all sales channels or a selected sales channel. Shopware's SEO settings documentation says that clearing a selected channel returns the selector to All sales channels.
What should you rebuild after changing the template?
Shopware says to rebuild the SEO index after changing the SEO template so that the URLs are updated.
