Why is an enhancement report missing from Search Console?

The Citead team, updated

In short. A missing enhancement report usually means Google has not detected valid markup for a supported rich result type in the property.

Definition: A Search Console enhancement report appears only when Google finds valid markup in your property and that markup belongs to a supported rich result type. Markup that is present but invalid, or a type that Google does not support for a report, does not satisfy both conditions.

Key facts

  • Google's rich result report help says that reports show structured data and its validity found on a site, with a separate report for each rich result type found on the property.
  • Google states that a report for a type appears only when it finds valid markup in the property and the markup is a supported rich result type.
  • Search Console places rich result reports under Enhancements. Product snippets and merchant listings are under Shopping.
  • Google's structured data introduction requires all required properties for an object to be eligible for enhanced display in Google Search.
  • Google's general structured data guidelines say that items missing required properties are not eligible for rich results.

What does Google require before it creates the report?

The two conditions are cumulative. Google must detect the markup in the property, and the markup must describe a rich result type for which Search Console provides a report. The help page defines a valid item as an item without critical issues that can appear on Google as a rich result. A page can therefore contain structured data while producing no enhancement report when Google has not detected a valid item of a reportable type.

Google's introduction to structured data says that all required properties must be included for an object to be eligible for an enhanced appearance. It also says that the markup must be valid and properly implemented according to the feature documentation. Recommended properties are separate from required properties: Google advises supplying fewer complete and accurate recommended properties rather than incomplete or inaccurate data.

What counts as a supported type?

As of 16 October 2026, Google's structured data gallery describes a rich result as a richer search appearance that uses structured data and lists feature-specific implementation guides. The gallery includes a Breadcrumb feature and describes it as navigation showing the page's position in the site hierarchy. The report help has its own list of report types, including Breadcrumbs, Datasets, Events, Product snippets, Recipes, Review snippets, and Videos.

This distinction matters because Schema.org vocabulary is broader than Google's report catalogue. Google says its Search Central documentation is the authority for Google Search behavior and directs site owners to the guide for the specific feature. A Schema.org type by itself therefore does not show that Search Console has a matching enhancement report.

How can you check the missing condition?

Use the report location first:

Search Console
  Enhancements
  Shopping
    Product snippets
    Merchant listings

Then run the Rich Results Test on the URL or markup. Google's general structured data guidelines say that the Rich Results Test and the URL Inspection tool catch most technical errors. The structured data introduction recommends checking the markup during development, then checking the status report after deployment. URL Inspection can show whether Google has detected structured data on a URL that is absent from the report.

Check the required properties in the guide for the exact type, and check that Google can access the page. Google's general guidelines list JSON-LD, Microdata, and RDFa as supported formats, and say not to block structured data pages with robots.txt, noindex, or another access control method. They also require the structured data to represent content visible on the page. These checks address detection and eligibility; they do not make an unsupported type reportable.

FAQ

Does adding Schema.org markup create an enhancement report?

No. Google's rich result report help requires valid markup that Google has found in the property, with a type supported by the report system.

Does a passing Rich Results Test create the report?

No. The general structured data guidelines describe the test as a technical check. Google still needs to detect the markup in the property and recognize a supported rich result type.

What can you do when a URL is absent from the report?

Use URL Inspection to check whether Google has detected structured data on that URL. If the URL has detected markup, compare its type and required properties with the relevant Google feature guide.
