In short. Enable Redirections in Advanced Mode, add a rule with source and destination URLs, choose the redirect type, and save it with active status.
Definition: A redirect sends a URL request to another address. In October 2026, Rank Math documents creating redirects through its Redirections module.
Key facts
- Rank Math's Advanced Mode documentation lists Redirections among the modules available only in Advanced Mode.
- The redirection setup guide accepts a full source URL or a path beginning at the domain's first slash.
- Rank Math's General Settings documentation lets the redirection type selected for an individual rule override the global default.
Where is the Redirections module?
Rank Math's Advanced Mode guide places the mode switch at WordPress Dashboard → Rank Math SEO → Dashboard. The Advanced Mode control is in the top-right corner. Selecting it exposes additional modules, including Redirections.
The General Settings guide documents enabling Redirections in the Rank Math dashboard. Its settings tab appears only after the module is enabled. Global redirect settings are then available at Rank Math SEO → General Settings → Redirections.
What goes in the source and destination fields?
Rank Math's setup guide describes opening Rank Math SEO → Redirections and selecting Add New. Source URLs contains the address being redirected. For a single address, Exact requires the requested path to match the source. The guide gives this source-path example:
/cat/apple-cider-vinegar
Destination URL contains the target address, either internal or external. Rank Math recommends a full destination URL. Add Another adds sources pointing to the same destination. The module excludes homepage redirection.
Redirection Type selects the response: 301 for a permanent move, or 302 or 307 for a temporary redirect. Status controls whether the rule is active. Selecting the active status and saving the redirection enables it.
How is an unexpected redirect checked?
Rank Math's General Settings guide documents Debug Redirections under Rank Math SEO → General Settings → Redirections. This setting inserts an intermediate diagnostic window between the source and destination. It displays the rule responsible for the redirect and is visible only to administrators. Rank Math recommends enabling the setting during diagnosis and keeping it disabled otherwise.
The Advanced tab documentation also explains that redirects created inside a post appear in the Redirections Manager. Disabling or deleting the rule there removes the redirect from the post as well.
