In short. Submit is_bundle=yes for a retailer-created bundle with a main product, describe the whole package and use the main product’s identifiers.
Definition: A retailer-created bundle combines a main product with complementary accessories and sells them together as one package for a single price. As of October 2026, Google Merchant Center documents
is_bundle=yesfor these offers.
Key facts
- Google's bundle documentation requires the attribute for retailer-created bundles containing a main product in free listings and in Shopping ads targeting specified countries.
- Google's GTIN documentation assigns a retailer-created bundle the main product's identifiers, including its Global Trade Item Number (GTIN).
- Google's multipack documentation uses
multipackfor identical products grouped by a retailer, with the quantity submitted as its value.
Which products use the bundle attribute?
Google's bundle examples include a camera with a lens and bag. The camera is the main product; the accessories complement it. A hat and scarf set appears with is_bundle=no in the same examples. Manufacturer-defined bundles omit the attribute. Shopping ads target countries requiring it include France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States.
How is the field submitted?
The format specification accepts yes, true, no and false. Omitting the field defaults to no. Google's XML example is:
<g:is_bundle>yes</g:is_bundle>
For a text data source, the attribute name and example value are:
is_bundle
Yes
The same documentation recommends describing the entire bundle in title, description and image_link. If any component is used, the bundle's condition value is used.
Which product identifiers belong in the submission?
Google's GTIN bundle guidelines distinguish bundles by who assembles them. For a retailer-created bundle, the submission uses the main product's gtin, manufacturer part number (mpn) and brand. In Google's camera, lens and carrying-bag example, the submitted brand belongs to the camera.
For a manufacturer-created bundle, the corresponding fields contain identifiers belonging to the bundle itself. The same documentation says to submit a GTIN only when its accuracy is certain, and to omit a guessed value.
How does a multipack differ?
A multipack groups identical products for sale as one product. Google's multipack requirements count the manufacturer-defined products that the retailer groups together. Its example of three manufacturer-packed boxes, each containing twenty pens, has a multipack value of 3.
A single multipack already packaged by the manufacturer omits this attribute. Google's example of one manufacturer-packaged pair of T-shirts leaves the field unsubmitted.

FAQ
Does personalization also use this field?
Yes. Google's customized-product guidelines instruct you to use is_bundle for engraving or other personalization. They also require customization to be explained in title and description, while retaining the manufacturer-assigned GTIN.
Do I count every item inside a manufacturer-packed box?
For multipack, Google's quantity rule counts the manufacturer-defined products you combine. Three individual pens and three manufacturer-packed boxes each receive a value of 3 in its examples.
