Kagi region settings

The Citead team, updated

In short. Kagi separates search region from interface language, while Assistant has its own optional web access control.

Definition: Kagi region settings control the country or region used for search results, with an International option. As of 17 October 2026, Kagi documents Country/Region separately from Interface Language, while Kagi Assistant offers optional web access powered by Kagi Search.

Key facts

  • Kagi's General Settings documentation describes Country/Region as a control for constraining results to a country or region; Interface Language leaves search results unaffected.
  • Kagi's Bangs documentation lists regional shortcuts, including !de for Germany and !int for International results.
  • Kagi's Assistant documentation describes web access as optional and powered by Kagi Search.

Where is the search region configured?

Kagi's Accessing Settings guide places the Control Center icon in the upper-right corner of Kagi webpages. The Settings button at the top of that panel opens the full settings page.

Within General Settings, Country/Region selects the geographic scope of search results, including the International option. Interface Language controls the language of the interface and does not affect search results. For a website review focused on a particular market, the relevant search control is Country/Region; changing interface labels leaves the results unchanged according to the same documentation.

How do regional shortcuts work?

A regional bang is a search shortcut beginning with an exclamation point that selects a region. Kagi's regional bang instructions give these examples:

!de
!int

The former selects Germany; the latter selects International. These shortcuts load results with the region already selected in the region filter. They provide a way to switch the geographic setting directly from a search query, avoiding a preliminary search followed by a filter change.

For a regional comparison, the query wording can be kept constant while the selected region changes. Recording the selected filter alongside each result makes the comparison explicit.

How does this relate to Assistant?

Kagi Assistant's documentation describes a separate control for web access below the prompt field. With web access enabled, Assistant can use Kagi Search. A review of Assistant answers therefore needs to record whether web access is enabled, alongside the search region being examined.

The reviewed documentation does not specify whether Assistant inherits Country/Region or offers a separate region override. Regional bang examples document Kagi Search behavior, so an Assistant comparison needs its own recorded settings and observed sources.

For checking the search side of that comparison, Kagi's Reporting a Bug guide places the search region directly below the search query. The guide also identifies search region as a factor that can affect result quality and Kagi behavior.

FAQ

Does changing the interface language change search results?

No. Kagi's General Settings documentation says Interface Language does not affect search results. You can use Country/Region to select a geographic scope.

How can I check which region a search uses?

You can look directly below your query, where Kagi's bug-reporting guide locates the search region. Record that value when comparing results across markets.
