Can Jimdo Creator include navigation-hidden pages in its XML sitemap?

The Citead team, updated

In short. Jimdo Creator premium plans can add navigation-hidden pages to the XML Sitemap, but inclusion does not settle crawling or indexing.

Definition: Yes. Jimdo Creator excludes hidden pages from its XML Sitemap by default, but premium plans provide an Include hidden pages in my Sitemap switch. In Jimdo's navigation guide, a hidden page is removed from navigation and can still be opened with a direct link.

Key facts

  • Jimdo's sitemap documentation says hidden pages are excluded by default and that premium plans can activate their inclusion.
  • The switch is in Menu > SEO > Settings > SEO, under the Website tab and the XML Sitemap section.
  • The setting is named Include hidden pages in my Sitemap and takes effect after you save the change.
  • Jimdo says a hidden page no longer appears in navigation and can be reached through a direct link. Its separate note says Google can still crawl hidden pages and show them in search results.
  • Google's sitemap overview describes a sitemap as a file that gives search engines information about site pages and other files. Listed URLs may still remain uncrawled or unindexed.

What does “hidden” mean in Jimdo Creator?

Jimdo uses hidden page for a page that no longer appears in the site's navigation. Its navigation guide says the page can be brought up with a direct link. The editor hides it through the eye icon labelled Hide page in navigation; a crossed eye indicates that the page is invisible in the navigation.

The sitemap control addresses a different output. A page can be absent from the navigation and included in the XML Sitemap when the premium-plan switch is enabled. Jimdo also states that Google can still crawl hidden pages and show them in search results. A hidden navigation state therefore does not by itself remove the page from search access.

How do you enable hidden pages in the XML Sitemap?

Jimdo's instructions require you to open the chosen Creator website in edit mode, then open the Website tab in the SEO settings. The setting appears under XML Sitemap. The relevant path and control are:

Menu > SEO > Settings > SEO
Website > XML Sitemap
Include hidden pages in my Sitemap

Select the checkbox and save. Jimdo documents this feature for Creator premium plans. The same article names Creator Business, Creator Shop and Creator Platinum as plans that also offer Robot Meta Tags for hiding selected pages in the Sitemap and making them invisible to search engines.

What does sitemap inclusion change for crawling?

Google's sitemap documentation defines a sitemap as a file containing information about pages, videos and other site files, including relationships between them. Google says search engines read it to crawl a site more efficiently and that it communicates which pages and files the site considers important. The documentation also describes optional information such as a page's last update and alternate language versions.

For a Jimdo page hidden from navigation, enabling the switch gives that URL a place in the platform-generated XML Sitemap. It does not settle whether an engine crawls or indexes the URL. Google says a sitemap helps search engines find URLs, while the items listed may still remain uncrawled or unindexed. Jimdo's separate hidden-page guide says Google can crawl and show hidden pages, which is why navigation visibility, sitemap inclusion and search treatment should be checked as separate properties.
