In short. Set a HubSpot page's language under Settings > Language > Page language and verify the rendered HTML lang value.
Definition: Set a HubSpot website or landing page's language in the content editor under Settings, Language, and Page language. The selected page language is represented in HubSpot's page model, while translated versions are separate pages grouped as language variants.
Key facts
- HubSpot's page editor places the control under Settings, Language, and the Page language dropdown. Create and customize pages gives this path.
- A language variant uses the same page structure and URL pattern as its related page, with a language-specific slug. Create pages in multiple languages describes this relationship.
- HubSpot says the variations for one page combine to form a multi-language group, which can have a primary page.
- In the CMS API,
languageis the ISO 639 code for the page, translatedFromIdidentifies the primary page for a variant, andtranslationsmaps ISO 639 codes to variant page objects. CMS API | Pages documents these properties.
Where do you set the page language?
Open the page from Content > Website Pages or Content > Landing Pages. In the content editor, select Settings in the top right, choose Language in the left menu, and select a value from the Page language dropdown. HubSpot's page settings documentation names this sequence and links the control to its multi-language page documentation.
This setting belongs to the page editor's language settings. It is separate from the Advanced settings used for items such as Head HTML and Footer HTML, so a page language change is made through the Language menu rather than by adding a custom code snippet.
How does the setting relate to language variants?
HubSpot's multilingual page workflow begins from the page dashboard. Select Create language variant, choose a Variation language, and open the resulting variant in the content editor. The Multi-language variation dropdown in the upper left switches between variants while you translate or edit their content.
HubSpot describes the variants as sharing the same page structure and URL pattern. Each variant has a language-specific slug, so the language value and the URL path belong to the individual page version. The variations then combine into a multi-language group. The dashboard can expand that group, add a page to it, remove a page, or convert one variation to the group primary.
The CMS API exposes the same relationship in fields. language records the page language, translatedFromId points from a variant to the primary page, and translations lists variant page objects by ISO 639 code. A page's language value identifies that page version, while creating or attaching other versions remains a separate workflow.
How can you check the rendered HTML?
The HTML signal to inspect is the lang attribute on the root html element. HubSpot's developer documentation gives this example:
<html lang="en">
The same documentation says that this attribute informs the browser of the language in which the page is displayed. Inspect the published page's source and compare the root lang value with the Page language selected in HubSpot. The support and API pages opened for this entry document the editor field and the stored page property, but they do not specify the exact template line that maps the field to the rendered root element.

FAQ
Does selecting Page language create a translated variant?
No separate variant is created by that dropdown. HubSpot's multilingual workflow uses Create language variant and Variation language to add another page version, then groups the versions together.
Where do you change the language of an existing variant?
Open that page version in the content editor, choose Settings, select Language, and change Page language. The active variant is selected through the Multi-language variation dropdown.
What should the HTML declaration look like?
Check the root element for a lang value, such as <html lang="en">. HubSpot's developer documentation describes this attribute as the declaration of the language in which the page is displayed.
