In short. French home computer assistance covers everyday-use training, installation and software maintenance at home, while remote support, hardware repairs and sales are excluded.
Definition: As of October 2026, French home computer assistance is a services à la personne (SAP) activity covering training for everyday computer use and related installation or software maintenance at a private individual's home. Remote assistance, hardware repairs, and sales of equipment or software fall outside its scope.
Key facts
- The Direction générale des Entreprises (DGE) includes home computer assistance in its personal-services activity list, with training focused on equipment and non-professional software.
- The DGE's SAP FAQ states that computer assistance takes place at the individual's home and excludes telephone or online support.
- The DGE's tax guidance gives computer assistance a specific annual eligible-spending cap of €3,000.
What work and equipment qualify?
The DGE's activity description covers introductory instruction or training in operating computer equipment and non-professional software for everyday use. The service can also include delivery of computer equipment to the home, installation and commissioning of equipment and software there, and software maintenance carried out at home.
The equipment covered includes computers, tablets, smartphones and peripherals. The same description includes digital equipment connected to the internet or enabling data sharing and an internet connection. It expressly excludes installation of hi-fi or television equipment, digital audio, photography or video equipment, games consoles and GPS devices.
Which services fall outside the scheme?
The DGE's computer-assistance FAQ treats equipment sales and repairs as commercial activities outside SAP. It also excludes telephone or online troubleshooting and assistance. A customer being at home during a remote support session therefore fails the stated requirement for assistance delivered at home.
The activity list separately excludes troubleshooting, hardware repair, and sales of both equipment and software. Its inclusion of equipment delivery and installation concerns the service performed at home; the purchase of the equipment or software remains excluded.
How do declaration status and tax relief apply?
The DGE's FAQ for providers identifies the SAP declaration as the procedure for home computer assistance to give access to the scheme's tax advantages. The separate approval procedure, called an agrément, is unnecessary for this activity. Providers apply through NOVA, the online application service, and need a SIREN business identification number before starting. The declaration application procedure is free. The FAQ also requires the SAP declaration registration number on commercial and contractual documents.
The DGE's guidance for households describes a tax credit of 50% of expenses actually borne after financial assistance is deducted. Computer assistance has the €3,000 annual spending cap mentioned above. The provider sends an annual tax certificate before 31 March of the following year, and the customer retains it as evidence for a tax inspection.
