In short. Google's Indexing API supports job posting and livestreaming video pages with specified structured data; ordinary business pages fall outside its stated scope.
Definition: No. As of 17 October 2026, Google's Indexing API, an interface for notifying Google about page changes, supports job posting pages with
JobPostingstructured data and livestreaming video pages withBroadcastEventembedded inVideoObject; ordinary business pages fall outside this stated scope, according to Google's Indexing API quickstart.
Key facts
- Google's quickstart describes notifications for added or removed job posting and livestreaming video pages, allowing Google to schedule a fresh crawl.
- Google's job posting documentation limits
JobPostingmarkup to pages containing a single job posting. - Google's API usage guide says an
HTTP 200response to an update means Google may try to recrawl the URL soon. - Google's recrawl guidance directs individual URL requests to the URL Inspection tool and large sets of URLs to sitemap submission.
Which pages meet the supported scope?
Structured data is a standardized format for describing and classifying page content. Google's job posting documentation requires the markup to appear on the same page as the job description that visitors can read. A page listing several jobs falls outside its instructions for individual job markup. An employer's dedicated vacancy page can therefore meet the supported page type; an ordinary service page lacks that basis.
For livestreams, VideoObject describes the video and BroadcastEvent describes its live broadcast. Google's video documentation nests the broadcast under the video's publication property. It defines publication.isLiveBroadcast as true when the video is, has been, or will be streamed live. An ordinary recorded business video alone falls outside the API's stated livestream scope.
What does an API request actually report?
Google's usage guide specifies an HTTP POST to this endpoint, with Content-Type: application/json:
https://indexing.googleapis.com/v3/urlNotifications:publish
Its example update body identifies a job page:
{
"url": "https://careers.google.com/jobs/google/technical-writer",
"type": "URL_UPDATED"
}
The guide allows one URL in an update request body. Its notification status method reports when Google last receives each notification type; it returns submission status rather than the time a URL enters or leaves the index.
Google's quickstart also states that submissions undergo spam detection and that abuse, including attempts to exceed quotas through multiple accounts, may result in revoked access.
How are ordinary business pages submitted?
Google's recrawl guidance provides the URL Inspection tool for individual pages. Requesting indexing requires owner or full-user access to the relevant Search Console property. Repeated requests for the same URL do not make crawling faster.
For many URLs, Google directs site owners to submit a sitemap, which tells Google about URLs on a site. Even for supported job pages, Google's job posting documentation recommends a sitemap for coverage of the entire site alongside use of the Indexing API for job posting changes.

FAQ
Can I use the API for a service page or homepage?
Those pages fall outside Google's supported page types unless they actually meet the documented job posting or livestreaming video scope.
Can I add JobPosting markup to make a business page eligible?
Google's job posting policy restricts that markup to a page containing a single job posting. Adding the label to unrelated content conflicts with that rule.
