In short. Divi's SEO tab documents title, meta field, title-generation, and canonical URL controls for homepage, single-post, and index pages.
Definition: Divi's built-in SEO tab provides controls for titles, meta descriptions, meta keywords, and canonical URLs for the homepage, single posts, and index/archive pages. A canonical URL is the URL declared as the official URL when several URLs lead to the same content.
Key facts
- Elegant Themes' Divi 5 Theme Options documentation, updated 18 September 2026, places these controls in the SEO tab.
- The SEO tab has three sub-tabs: Homepage SEO, Single Post SEO, and Index Page SEO, according to the earlier Divi theme-options documentation.
- The current documentation describes the scope as custom titles, descriptions, keywords, and canonical URLs for the three page groups.
- Homepage and single-post title fields can use custom values. The older documentation also describes title autogeneration methods that order or remove the blog name.
- For single posts, the older documentation describes custom field names for the title, description, and keywords values.
Where are the SEO controls in Divi?
The current Divi documentation places the settings in the WordPress Dashboard under Divi and Theme Options. Its tab list includes General, Navigation, Builder, Layout, Ads, SEO, Integration, and Updates. The route is:
WordPress Dashboard → Divi → Theme Options
Select SEO to reach the three sub-tabs. The current page calls these controls basic SEO controls and identifies the homepage, single posts, and index/archive pages as their targets.
How does the homepage title control work?
The Homepage SEO sub-tab provides an enable switch and a custom title field. The older documentation says the default homepage title combines the blog name and blog description. Enabling the custom title allows a different value in the custom title field.
The same sub-tab documents meta description and meta keywords switches with corresponding custom fields. Keywords are entered as comma-separated values. When custom titles are disabled, the autogeneration method controls the order of the post title and blog name or removes the blog name. A separate setting chooses the character between BlogName and Post title. The documentation gives | and - as common values.
The homepage controls shown by Elegant Themes are:
Homepage SEO
Enable Custom Title
Homepage Custom Title (If Enabled)
If Custom Titles Are Disabled, Choose Autogeneration Method
Define A Character To Separate BlogName And Post Title
Enable Canonical URLs
The canonical URL switch uses the theme's documented canonicalization behavior. The older documentation says the theme bases canonical URLs on the site's permalinks and the domain name defined in the WordPress administration settings.
What changes for single posts and index pages?
Single Post SEO uses custom fields for per-post values. The documentation says custom titles require the custom-title option and a chosen custom field name. The field's value supplies the title. The same pattern applies to custom descriptions and keywords, with keywords separated by commas. Single posts also have the canonical URL switch and the title autogeneration method with its separator setting.
Index Page SEO has its own canonical URL switch. It also has a meta-description option for category and archive pages. The description comes from the category description entered in WordPress Dashboard, Post, Post Categories. Its title autogeneration method controls the order of the blog name and index title or removes the blog name, and the separator setting controls the character used between title parts.
When should the built-in settings be used?
Elegant Themes says a site already using an SEO plugin such as Rank Math or Yoast SEO should configure SEO in that plugin and leave Divi's SEO settings disabled to avoid duplicate meta tags and conflicts. A site without an SEO plugin can use the Divi tab for basic site-wide SEO settings, according to the same documentation.
