How do I add services and descriptions to a Google Business Profile?

The Citead team, updated

In short. Eligible businesses add services through Edit services and select each service to enter its price and description.

Definition: The services editor lets eligible businesses list their services, prices and descriptions on a Google Business Profile, a business listing managed through Google Search or Maps.

Key facts

  • As of 17 October 2026, Google's services documentation describes the editor as an option for businesses in certain categories.
  • Google's profile editing guide identifies menu and service editing as a feature with limited availability.
  • Google's category documentation requires businesses to choose categories from the available list.

How are services added and edited?

Google's services guide gives this route for adding services:

Business Profile > Edit services > Select services > Save

To edit details, select a service under Edit services, add its price and description, then select Save. Delete service removes it.

For additional entries, select Add more services. Choose a suggestion or use Add custom service when the service is absent. Google prohibits profanity, gibberish, personal information, prices and phone numbers in custom service names; policy violations trigger automatic rejection.

How are service categories chosen?

Google's category guide says the primary category should describe the business as specifically as possible. Its example uses “Nail salon” rather than “Salon.” When a specific category is unavailable, Google directs businesses to choose a general category that describes their activity.

Additional categories can describe other services or departments, but Google advises against selecting a category for every product or service. Categories come from Google's list; businesses cannot create their own. Adding or editing a category may require business verification again. The same guide identifies service-list editing as an available feature for health and beauty businesses.

For service grouping, Google's services guide uses Edit services, then Add a new business category. Select an available category, add its services, then select Save.

Where does a description belong?

Google's profile editing documentation requires signing in to the Google Account linked to the profile before editing business information. It says management features can differ between Search, Maps and device operating systems.

The overall business description appears in the From the business section. Google limits this field to 750 characters, excludes URLs and HTML, and asks for details about the business rather than promotions, prices or sales. Suggested content includes what the business offers and how long it has operated.

The same documentation says Google reviews changes before updating them live on the profile.
